Data & Sources

Where every bout comes from, and how the history was checked.

Principal sources: the official NCAA championship results and brackets; the NCAA’s Wrestling Guides, Records Books and annual championship publications; National Wrestling Hall of Fame archival material where applicable; and, as a principal historical reference, Jairus K. Hammond’s The History of Collegiate Wrestling: A Century of Wrestling Excellence.

Documented source decisions

Where sources disagree or a bracket is incomplete, the decision is recorded bout by bout. Nothing is reconciled silently.

What is recorded for each bout

For every championship from 1970 to 2026, Tournament Central keeps what its source shows for each bout wherever the source provides it: the wrestlers’ names and schools as printed, the winner, the score or result exactly as written, and the round and bracket position. Each result keeps a record of where it came from. When a source has a typo, disagrees with another source, prints something unreadable or needs a historical reading, the original text is kept and the decision is written down beside it, never quietly replaced. Nothing is reconciled silently. When a source doesn’t print a result, Tournament Central says so rather than guessing.
